If you say so spongebob!
But i was there & as part of the AGM rules we had to sit there for 20 mins while nearly 200 names were read out who have already become members in just 2 weeks!
And most of these were present at the AGM so i can assure you it was more than 15!

Getting a bit tetchy are we Blood?

I think everyone (well almost everyone) who uses or reads the forum would genuinely like to see SWTFC back in the ECL but you have sort of drawn the barbed and humorous (to us) remarks on yourself.

I think there may have been some inventive maths used to calculate crowds in the past differing quite largely from eyewitness accounts from supporters on the ground.

Some may accuse you of being somewhat self righteous in the past and those with memories may just be having a little dig back.
All part of life's humour I'm afraid.

I well recall visiting Histon in the late 70's and early 80's when you could count four people in the ground excluding players and three were from the club I support, yet crowd figures of 50/60/70/80 were recorded. We always felt they counted the people on the top deck of the bus as it went over the bridge at the front of the ground in their 'watchers'.

I counted about a 100 or so watching youth football at the Goldstar Ground this am, should the club count them as part of the attendance for the reserve fixture this afternoon!

Nothing to do with me how many attend a game , 5 to 10 years ago we used to get around the 200 mark but
in more recent years it has been nearer 100.
But with the amount of intrest shown over the past couple of weeks i reckon come the start of
the new season we will be back up towards the former figures with alot of old faces coming back out of the wood work!
Feel free to come down and have a count.

And i agree about some dubious amounts when there hadn't looked as many as what was reported!
Maybe it was the old committee trying to cover up falling attendances due to lack of desire after a promising start.
But the club has a whole new committee now and i expect intrest to be very high(as already is).
With lots of plans for the future and maybe genunie + 200 crowds , only time will tell.
Maybe you could come down to our first match & report crowd numbers?

The new committee is here if you click link,

http://www.saffronwaldentownfc.com/News.html

Think the committee are meeting up this week to have a look round & see what needs
to be done first.
Club are hopeful of some good investment (it helps when new chairman is also the town mayor)
So maybe a much needed update on facilities.

Also would be great to see you back down the lane (the Ronaldo of the Ridgeons).
But don't let that go to your head!

some new faces should be good for the club ! and the historian Mr Daw is in there aswell, thanks for the kind words lol - would love to know who on the shortlist as there are a couple of ppl who could bring some decent players to catons lane for example, Marc Das was always good when i was there , Dennis Lightning would be perfect : lots of ridgeons players respect him and ex manager i believe aswell , Kieran Badcock fulbourn manager atm has endless of contacts around the prem and div1 and im sure you have loads of your own so exciting for the town as the fans which when i was there was 200 average every game ! change of club colours a option ?? new start and new begining and all that ??

I know of a lot of interested players & 1 or 2 potential managers (A lot of ex players at the meetings + potential managers) but would be unfair to name them at present as they are all with other clubs at the moment.
Although it is a fresh start in terms of a whole new set up , its still the same club so very much doubt a colour change.
But there's already a new stand going up at the home end!

fair enough just asked as ive seen some this year who have, will be nice to see who gets the job, are you any of the new staff or just a fan ? either way exciting times for the town again, great little ground and fans would be a selling point for anyone and the looks of the div 1 doesnt look like it will be strong enough so should see a promotion one the 1st year of asking if you got half the team i was involved in, need to get some big teams ( league ) in for pre season to get more money in !

I'm not on the committee , just a keen fan.
Think there's going to be a supporters club set up also & as i said before , there's already 200
who have paid to be members.
I'l try and keep this thread alive as soon as i find out any new info.

Volunteer Weekend : 21 and 22 April 2012

Please can you help get senior football going again in Saffron Walden!? The volunteer weekend on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd April at Catons Lane is a vital step in getting the ground prepared to host first team football from next season.

More information for potential volunteers can be downloaded here. We hope you can come down and lend a hand!

If you are interested in coming along, please email info@swtfc.com or use the contact form at www.saffronwaldentownfc.com with your name, whether there are specific skills you have, and what time and which day you plan to join us.

We welcome all ages of volunteer and will try to find appropriate jobs for everyone, but please note that children remain the responsibility of their parents at all times.

Question and Answer Information
Q. What are the priorities for the volunteer weekend?

A. The key priorities for the two days are:
• Improve the state of the ground, by getting as much done as we can
• Ensure a safe environment for volunteers to work in
• Make the day as much fun as possible!

Q. What equipment should I bring?
A. For any of the jobs, we recommend appropriate clothing (e.g. old clothes), sturdy footwear and gardening / working gloves.

Q. What work will be carried out over the weekend by staff and volunteers?
A. There is a wide range of jobs which need doing. A provisional list is on the Guidance which can be downloaded here.

Please click here to download a poster to help promote the Weekend.

Have heard that an announcement of the Smith / Wallington partnership has been put on hold as there is a question mark as to which league Saffron Walden will be put into next season. The inference being that the FA have suggested that they should start lowe down the pyramid. Anyone else heard this ?

Surely this shouldn't be a problem as Witton pulled out half way through the season and were allowed straight back in!
Plus the league are crying out for clubs & are having to allow lower placed sides up & less promotion places.
Plus Team Braintree (don't remember them rising through the ranks to enable them to join).
Surely common sense should prevail.
