is it just me or have the ecl missed a trick today? wouldnt it have made sense to have a full programme of fixtures on new years day. crowds would have been on a par with boxing day attendances with takings, bar and snack sales up on a normal match day. what do others think?

I have to agree with you Warhorse, have the clubs missed the 'gravey' boat or were they canvassed about NYD fixtures. Concerns possibly from clubs over whether their players would have been 'fit' enough from the night before!!! pale

I think the fixtures were originally set for New Years Day by the league but the clubs have decided to change them. Dunno why.
Personally, I'd rather spend an afternoon watching footie than a cold evening

I thought that also Dave, but went to Wroxham instead.... Twisted Evil

Games will probably get called off if the weather reports are as accurate as previous weeks.

Does anyone know why clubs changed the dates? The Gorleston v Dereham game was originally scheduled for today but I understand it was changed at the request of the home club. Due to work commitments both my wife and I will now be unable to go. That's £20-£25 in lost revenue.

Plus the extra costs of having floodlights on from the beginning, but it seems all except Clacton and Stanway decided it would be better to switch

I agree will everyone's comments, Clubs have probably missed out on "good attendances " if the matches had been played on New Years Day, note FC clacton had attendance of 154 would they get that on a night match.

Some may say it ties up people running the Clubs on a "Bank Holiday ", but it must save those running clubs who work during the day having to rush home from work then to the club to get things ready for the match

You are correct Gorleston did request a change of date.....but Dereham have to agree and they were more than happy to do that.
And as one of the non paid helpers whose normal match day consists of watching about 10 minutes near the end of the game i was glad it was changed as i get to watch a game elsewhere and thoroughly enjoyed AFC Sudbury beat Wroxham at Trafford Park.
