Ridgeons reserve leagues

Post  yiddo on Wed Sep 21, 2011 4:54 pm

Having taken in a few reserve fixtures this season I must say what a difference there is in midweek and Saturday fixtures. I have noticed a lot of teams will give some first team players a game for the reserves midweek as in a lot of cases there is no training due to reserves and under 18's having midweek fixtures. This certainly makes for better watching and increases the number of people attending but from a league point of view come the end of the season a few teams will be feeling hard done by as points dropped against teams during midweek could be costly. Should we try to play games at weekends only or limit the number of 1st team player or play all reserve games midweek????????

Our reserves (FC Clacton) have already played Brightlingsea Reserves twice this season. Both games were midweek and on both occasions our first team had a fixture. I think I am correct in saying that on both occasions Brightlingsea first team did NOT.
With the natural midweek difficulties due to work/college/school commitments we have found it much more difficult to raise a side for these fixtures. Indeed, last night our firsts had 13 while the reserves had 12. This was mainly due to the fact that our Under 18s (many of whom would have been in the reserves last night) had played an FA Youth Cup match on Monday evening and, as a Club, we took the decision not to overplay them with two games in as many days. Maybe the League could have looked at the fixtures and possibly postponed the reserves last night?
As for playing the occasional first team player in the ressies for midweek matches.......we've had our midweekers and not one first team player played in either fixture!
Such are the vagaries of reserve team football.

Spongy a joke is a joke, but to think that the league would help a club in a fixture overload is like believing a satellite was going to crash land in Scotland. lol!
