PREMIER DIVISION PREVIEW - SATURDAY 24th SEPTEMBER 2011
With The FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round taking centre stage, there are just three Premier Division fixtures.
Dereham Town V Wisbech Town
Ely City V Kirkley & Pakefield
Wroxham V Wivenhoe Town
Wroxham are the irresistible force at present but The Dragons are not the immovable object and they will do well to take anything from this fixture. Wroxham are the third Ridgeons side to be exempted from the Vase at this stage while their visitors lost out to First Division opposition in the 1st Qualifying Round. The Yachtsmen have played eleven games in all competitions and won ten while the Dragons have played ten and lost nine. It is a huge ask for the visitors but this is the kind of game that can prove to be a banana skin, Wivenhoe will not lack spirit but may not have the quality to combat the leagues in form side who have scored 22 times in the league, while conceding just twice.[justify]
Dereham Town V Wisbech Town
An intriguing encounter here with everyone keen to see the reaction of The Fenmen following the mid-week catastrophe that saw them concede nine goals and have three players sent off at Mildenhall. Both clubs are exempt until the next round of The FA Vase and will want to collect league points here. Dereham have played two more games that The Yachtsmen and have a slender two point lead and an inferior goal difference so three points are needed to ensure they finish the day still on top. Wisbech now down to 6th following two defeats have seen their positive goal-difference wiped out and will no doubt respond to that mid-week crash so this should be a definite match of the Day.
Ely City V Kirkley & Pakefield
These two made their exits from The Vase at the 1st Qualifying Round stage hence this re-arranged fixture but Ely went so close to a place in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup on Tuesday, losing out after Extra-Time to Ryman League Needham Market in the replay. They will no doubt have gained confidence from their performance over the two games and are always difficult to unlock at The Unwin Ground. The Royals responded well to new manager Paul Tong last Saturday but slipped back at Diss on Tuesday to start the day in 16th place. They may well be happy to take a share of the points home with them from this game.
