Wisbech moving to the UCL
It has been confirmed today that Wisbech have been acepted into the UCL. Therefore we can assume that Dereham & Wisbech will be replaced in the Premier Div by Newmarket & Brightlingsea meaning no relegation. Not totally unexpected I suppose !

Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
With these Clubs moving , its seems a pity the person doing the Thurlow Nunn website can't keep things up to date , or are they embarassed that Two Clubs have now left the fold to join the United Counties League.
Now a Team light in the Premier League, no team being relegated down the structure, rules state only top "three " from Division One allowed to be promoted, whats happening to the E.C.L don't know what teams if any have applied to join Division One or if they have will they be accepted.
Can understand to some degree as to why Wisbech & Godmanchester have moved sideways , ( to cut down on travelling costs I suspect ) , could be an interesting League A.G.M

Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
Is there a minimum accepted number of clubs(by FA rules) that have to be in Div 1 next season?
If CUP return whence they came and Newmarket and Brightlingsea are promoted that would reduce the league to 15 teams.
As has been stated elsewhere the Premier are losing 2 clubs(promoted and sideways) with none coming down from above, so no clubs are due to be relegated. Basement club FC Clacton apparently reprieved aswell.
Does anyone know if any clubs have applied to join Div 1 as a 28 game season (plus always one team with no Saturday fixture) seems a poor way forward.

Waste of time the League having a "twitter " a/c thought the idea of having websites etc was to keep everyone informed easily as to what's ocurring

Goddy have stated that they do not wish to move to the UCL and are appealing against the FAs decision.
Interesting...

Gentlemen,
The League does NOT have a twitter account. The account that you follow is neither connected to or endorsed by the Thurlow Nunn League Management Committee or indeed by Thurlow Nunn.
Secondly, as has been stated on here, Godmanchester's move to the UCL was as much news to the League as it was to Goddy. How can you expect the League website to update anything about the "move" when they new nothing about it!! And what would you have them say?
Headline.....Godmanchester moving to UCL
Byline.....No they're not
Sub......Well, they might be, but nobody knows for certain yet. Goddy have appealed...or have they?? Nothing on their website says that they have, so where has that come from? Ah, twitter. But from whom? Somebody speaking with the Club's authority or a fan?
Do you now see why the League hasn't published anything???
As the old saying goes, sometimes it's better to be thought of as a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt!

Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
A fair point well made Admin ...
The bit that is odd is that The FA would move a club from where they want to be to where they don't want to be, without consultation with either their current league or the club.
Or is it odd... !!
Those who attended the Step 5/6 revue meetings last year will smell a rat here, The FA didn't like the reaction they got from the vast majority of clubs, perhaps this is payback time.
One thing is for sure, nothing they appear to do is undertaken with the best intentions for the clubs in question. Chatham Town and Sittingbourne FC being a prime example, with the latter being placed in the Ryman South, Ryman North and Ryman South again all within a week to make the league fit regardless of geography or the clubs wishes.

The first Godmanchester knew about about it was when an UCL official asked them for details to be put in the league handbook !

Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
i just think once again the F.A have ballsed it up again Reading the Non League paper today many teams saying why are they in that league when there are other further north /south than them in the complete oppersite league
they have no respect for the non league system and treat it as a piece of stuff you want to wipe off your shoe
How was Godmanchester for instance not even told that they might be moving isn;t there nearer clubs in that area ? that could have moved sideways

Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
I'm as surprised as anybody with this turn of events. Certainly it was not our intention to affect any other clubs when we requested a move (although FC Clacton are quite glad we did, apparently...).
Just out of interest, does anyone know why they are so adverse to the UCL? Obviously they will gain a massive local derby against Huntingdon Town and I imagine their travelling will go down as well, but it is notable that they presumably could have applied to join the UCL Division One back in 2002, but chose the ECL instead.

Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
Goddy are not, as far as I am aware, members of this forum, so difficult to get their view on things.
I don't think they have any issues with the UCL, just on preference they wish to play in the ECL.
Wisbech prefer to play in the UCL which I don't see any issue with, all parties agree with the shift, personally I will miss the trip to Wisbech, even if it is on a Tuesday night at the end of the season. The Fenmen are an excellent Non-League Club.
So the FA grant Wisbech their request, which seems fair and sensible, but then impose a move on Goddy, who have just as much right to play in the ECL where they want to play as the Fenmen have to play in the UCL where they want to play.
Something's not right!

Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
According to a statement in the Cambridge-News by Goddy, travelling is not a major issue with them and their wish is to remain in the Thurlow Nunn League and will be appealing the decision.Spenny wrote:I'm as surprised as anybody with this turn of events. Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
As far as my earlier comment about total teams in Div 1, I understand that that Leiston and Needham Market ressies will be joining along with Haverhill Borough.
At least that would bring the compliment upto 18.
Is anyone able to confirm?

I understood that Leiston had moved to an under 21 league while Needham Market are listed as members of the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League Premeir Division for the forthcoming season!
I haven't any knowledge of the Haverhill situation!

This wouldn't be the Haverhill Sports Association team who created a shock result when beating Dereham Town in the FA Vase??welshwatcher wrote:I understood that Leiston had moved to an under 21 league while Needham Market are listed as members of the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League Premeir Division for the forthcoming season!

I believe Needham Reserves will continue in the Reserve League however their Academy side are the ones that have applied to join Div 1

Re: Wisbech moving to the UCL
With all this speculation, I personally don't think we will know the full out come of what Teams are coming in until the League A.G.M when the Clubs will be annouced and voted in by existing member Clubs. One thing is for sure I can't see the League annoucing this on their website until after the A.G.M
